2025

2025 will go down in history as the year the US finally fractured.

In less than a year, the country went from the land of the free and the self-styled beacon of democracy to:

• masked gunmen and the National Guard roaming the streets
• subversion of the Constitution and rule of law
• Congress acquiescing to the Executive Branch concentrating powers
• major institutions being eliminated.

At the same time, the country has lost the trust, and therefore "soft power", with its allies abroad, which no amount of military "hard power" will restore.

Many Americans who were anxious in January 2025, saw their worst fears transpire by December. Their powerlessness is turning to anger as they see Government of the People, by the People, for the People disappear in the rear-view mirror.

What's next in the short term?

The big question that is now being asked is, "Will there be elections in 2026 and 2028?" A year ago that was taken for granted. No longer.

2026

Assuming there are elections in 2026 and they are fraud-free, what's going to happen?

After another expensive and nasty campaign, there are 3 possible outcomes:

• If MAGA wins the House and the Senate, there will be more of the same domination by the Executive Branch and destruction of "traditional American values".
• If the Democrats win them both, there will be 2 years of trying to undo the institutional demolition of the previous 2 years (including perhaps an impeachment). Building back up is really slow compared to knocking them down.
• If MAGA and the Democrats win one House each, there will be stalemate, and nothing will get done.

In any of the 3 possible outcomes, by the time of the 2028 election, the US will be in a worse position than it is now. Not great.

Internationally, who knows what will happen? The Venezuela and Greenland adventures in January and the Iran naval build-up in February does not bode well for the recovery of trust in countries that once alled themselves allies.

2028/9

Unless something changes, the 2028 election process will be like as before: nasty, cost billions and the winner will have less that 50% support. The USA will still be a DINO. This isn't a sustainable situation. A DINO future is a miserable future. The political system has to fundamentally change for the US to fix its problems.

The traditional political establishment have no incentive to do that - they know to play the current game; they have no advantage if the rules are reinvented. In other words, the people and systems that got the US into this mess are not the people and systems to get the US out.

It's the everyday citizens who have the incentive to Make America Really Great... Eventually, and secure their future. But they have to start now to create the Citizen-led Future.

What's next: How to Make America Really Great... Eventually

Clearly, this is what GenR Rising, Citizen-led Democracy and Peace Leadership are all about.

America's leaders are fond of saying that after the Second World War America created the "rules-based order" that enabled the world to thrive. The most powerful country in the world, making the rules with the most powerful military in the world to ensure compliance. That world no longer exists.

America has to let it's past greatness and it's present dysfunction go.

There is now the opportunity for America to take the lead again. This time, in creating a global citizen-led future, leading to peace by bringing other nations with them.

And, frankly, the world needs US citizens to take the lead.
