The world situation paints a bleak future for young people:

• the political leaders of the 3 most powerful and aggressive nations on earth are all in their 70's, are driven to achieve maximum power, money and dominance before they die.
• Existing governance systems preserve the Powerful Few at the expense of everyone else.
• And are further extended by AI being used to surveil citizens and make weapons autonomous.

In other words, 1984 is not really fiction anymore.

The intent is to make the Powerful Few permanently powerful and the Powerless Many - which includes nearly all young people - permanently powerless. Slaves.

One more thing

The year was 1986 - forty years ago (longer than most readers have been alive). A new act, Bruce Hornsby and The Range, released a song, The Way It is, that caught the energy of the times. It was a huge hit, worldwide.

The song describes various injustices in society, with the refrain "That's just the way it is. Somethings will never change."

I looked up what happened in 1986. As if to support Hornsby's lyrics the following events happened in the US: the US bombed the Middle East; there was a US Government shutdown; there was an Immigration Reform bill in Congress; the US was secretly selling arms to Iran to fund rebel groups in Nicaragua and the Senate voted to support the Star Wars Initiative (not unlike the current Golden Dome concept). War, war and more war.

Some things will never change indeed.

The last line of the chorus is "Oh, but don't you believe it!" With GenR Rising and the Citizen-led Future, we hav e the opportunity to make the last line totally true.
